Beginning April 6th, Metroscape will be coming out each week on Monday. This schedule will continue through the growing season.
There will be a “Weed and Feed” done this month, to help the grass and cut back on the weeds. We are also going to distribute more grass seed and continue to treat the fire ant mounds.
Metroscape will be returning this Saturday, March 28th, for mowing and shrub trimming. Beginning in April, they will be coming out every week.
Our landscaping contractor will be here on Wednesday, March 25, to mow and treat the fire ant mounds.
Due to the icy weather, our Landscaping contractor did not come out on Monday, Feb 23rd. They will be coming out this Saturday, February 28th to turn the beds and do some shrub trimming.
We will be getting a second visit from Metroscape on February 23rd to do some shrub trimming and turn the front beds over. They may also be doing some mowing.
We will be getting 2 visits from them in March and 4 to 5 visits from April to September, per our contract.
I spoke with our landscaping company, MetroScape, and was told that when they were out here yesterday and working in the flower beds, they topped off the Cannas. This is usually done after the first frost, in preparation for relocating the rhizomes (bulbs) inside during the winter, depending on the temperature zone you live within. (We are in USDA Zone 8a, where average minimum temp ranges from 10 to 15 F.)
Zone 8a is the coldest climate in which cannas are rated hardy. An unusually cold winter can therefore possibly cause some damage to the rhizomes. After the canna foliage dies back in the fall because of the first hard frost, cut it back to the ground. Then, cover the planting bed with 4 to 6 inches of mulch. If you use leaves that you raked during the fall, about 8 to 12 inches will be needed. Mulch helps protect canna rhizomes in zone 8a from any damage that may occur in a colder than normal winter.

MetroScape will be on property tomorrow doing their twice monthly mow and trim. They will only mow once in December, due to the decline in seasonal growth.
Over the next few weeks, depending on the weather, we will be doing our Fall Planting of Shrubs and Trees. We are under budget, as we got these larger trees at half price. Most of the 13 trees we bought are more mature than the previous ones, much taller and larger diameters. Since they are larger, we are having a Dig Test done on the areas of planting to assure that there are no utilities, phone or power lines where we are digging; some of these trees will require 6-7′ diameter holes, about 2-3′ deep.
Due to the size of these trees and the weight of the containers, we will be renting a Bobcat for a few days to move them around the subdivision.
The list of trees and shrubs are: Pond Cypress (2), Mexican Plum (3), Eastern Redbud (3), Red Shumard Oak (1), Japanense Boxwood (10), Golden Euonymus (10), Red Tip Photinia (10), and Compacta Nandina (10).
Metroscape will be here on Monday, October 20, to mow the property.
S&P Tree service will be here on Tuesday, October 21, and will be removing the remnants of the tree in the common area between E. Mountain Creek Drive and E. Mountain Creek Court which was badly damaged during the storm on October 2nd. Other trees in the subdivision will be thinned and trimmed.
For the next few months we are only getting 2 mows, per our contract, due to being outside of the normal growing season.
Our next scheduled mow will be on Monday, October 20th. I have also asked them to keep the carports as clear of grass and leaves as possible without causing a trespass issue.
