On Friday, we took a drive to the local tree nursery near I-20 and 820, we bought 10 trees which will be delivered on Monday sometime. We decided to go with the Chinese Pistache, a drought resistant tree, the same as the 2 trees between the Office and the Pool (near West Mountain Lane). They will provide a lot of color in the fall when the leaves turn.
Here are a few photos of this tree and some info:
Long–lived, winter hardy shade tree with spectacular red, red–orange fall color. Outstanding heat, drought and soil tolerance. Extremely pest resistant. A near perfect shade tree for one–story buildings.
Hardiness: Zone 5
Exposure: Full sun
Size: Height — 40 feet tall; width — 30 feet wide
Hi, I’m wondering if any of these tree’s will be on the East Side Door #76
We have not yet determined where they will go.
The notice says the tree chosen are good for Zone 5. You might like to know we are in Zone 8. There are many trees suited to our Zone for planting, all of which might stand a better chance of survival. Information can be found at the Arbor Foundation. As a matter of fact, they will send trees at low cost or free. The last time I renewed my membership, they sent 12 trees of various varieties suited for our location in planting Zone 8. All were for less than $20.00 for the 12.
When and who is on the landscape committee? I was not able to find that information on the site, just a mention of the committee and that they were in charge of approvals in landscape and changes.
Frank, that may be, but we have already planted 5 or 6 on property in 2014 and they are doing fine. We bought this type because of ~2.5 feet growth per year and drought and insect resistance. We have gotten a few trees from members from the Arbor foundation and they were not very hardy. Might have just been a fluke.
I don’t think it is a good idea to publish who is on our committees because they will likely have unwanted solicitation from homeowners. All of our committees are overseen by a Board member.
Those are going to look great.
hope i get one in front of my house. asked last time. been here 27 years no tree. 13 e mountain crrek ct
plant one in 1994 but the yard guys kill it.
that life here. have a good day. ask and you wil get.
We are planting a tree near you property, probably next week. We get a lot of requests for a lot of things; we cannot do everything that we are asked to do.
On another note, we do NOT spray weed killer around trees or in the flower beds; I don’t believe in that. It might take a bit more time and work, but it makes the entire area look better when we turn the flower beds.
THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR THE TREE THAT WAS PLANT TO DAY IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE THANK YOU.
BTW, anyone who puts up a border around the front bed signals that they, the homeowner, are taking care of it, so our guys will not turn it. It was the same when Metroscape was doing our landscaping.
