Summer Reading Club |

The fun begins with a kickoff party on Saturday, May 30, 10 a.m.-noon at the Main Library, 901 Conover Dr., that features firefighters, a ladder truck, engine and an ambulance. Come to the library and pick up your reading log. Kids earn coupons as they read, teens and adults earn entries into prize drawings.

City Releases ‘My GPTX’ Mobile App for Residents |
Grand Prairie residents can download the latest version of the My GPTX mobile app __ a convenient tool for keeping in touch with your city __ from iTunes for iPhone/iPad or Google Play for Android.
The app allows users to report issues to city staff (such as code violations, potholes, street light outages, etc.), track service requests, access the city’s phone and email directory, look up council district, trash and recycling days, nearest park and more. 8 a.m.: Get Fit GP Run for Shelter will kick off with kids and adults running with Grand Prairie Police Chief Steve Dye and Fire Chief Robert Fite during the Chase the Chiefs 1-Mile Fun Run.
8:30 a.m.: The 5K will start with Get Fit GP health/sponsor booths, music and awards after the run.

Farmers Market Opens and Strollin’ with the Mayor

The Grand Prairie Farmers Market will officially open for business at 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, for the 2015 season. In addition to locally grown vegetables, meats, honey, pasta, spices, tamales and more, exciting activities are planned to kick off the season.

Twelve Strays of Christmas |
Give the ultimate gift to a homeless animal this holiday season during the Twelve Strays of Christmas adoption special from now-Dec. 24 at Prairie Paws Animal Adoption Center, 2222 W. Warrior Trail. On Dec. 18, animals will be available for adoption for $18. This fee will increase by $1 daily as Dec. 25 approaches (the fee will correspond with the day’s date). The shelter’s operating hours will remain unchanged, and it will be closed Sundays and Mondays. The shelter is full, and many of its animal guests urgently need new homes. More info. |
2014 City Holiday Ornament

The annual custom-designed 2014 City of Grand Prairie holiday ornament is hand made this year by Rebecca Jensen, wife of Mayor Ron Jensen. Mrs. Jensen used paper and other natural elements to fashion cones of holiday cheer featuring branches, pennants, glitter and cloth. We have had many Televisions put out as trash over the past few weeks. Not only are they not standard household waste, they are classified as Hazardous and cannot be put into our compactor. If you buy a new TV, you need to make your own arrangements to dispose of the old one, we cannot do it for you. GP’s website offers the following information:

We have scheduled a large item pickup for Thursday, November 20th. We will do the usual trash pickup, followed by large items; we will not pick up any construction debris.

Please remember that putting out large items on regular trash days can result in fines, especially if these large items are placed in Common Areas. This is illegal dumping on Association Property and will be treated as such.
Veterans Day Ceremony
